{"id":10880,"date":"2012-10-18T15:18:18","date_gmt":"2012-10-19T01:18:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=10880"},"modified":"2021-02-12T14:21:48","modified_gmt":"2021-02-13T00:21:48","slug":"formal-search-process-begins-for-three-uh-manoa-positions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2012\/10\/18\/formal-search-process-begins-for-three-uh-manoa-positions\/","title":{"rendered":"Formal search process begins for three <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa positions"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><p>The University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at M&#257;noa <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/ovcaa\/\">Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs<\/a> has initiated the formal search process for the regular appointment of three executive positions&#8212;director and publisher of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uhpress.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> Press<\/a>; dean of the <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/spas\/\">School of Pacific and Asian Studies<\/a>\/assistant vice chancellor for International and Exchange Programs and <a href=\"http:\/\/library.manoa.hawaii.edu\/\">university librarian<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The current director and publisher of <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Press is retiring at the end of 2012, and the interim dean of SPAS\/assistant vice chancellor for <abbr>OIEP<\/abbr> is retiring next year. The library is currently being led by an interim appointment. These three searches reflect M&#257;noa&#8217;s continuing commitment and efforts in moving the university forward in the hiring of deans and directors.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I am delighted to announce these searches as part of our effort to create a permanent leadership team at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa who can continue our progress,&rdquo; said Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs <strong>Reed Dasenbrock<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;At the same time, <b>Bill Hamilton<\/b>, retiring after serving as director of the Â鶹´«Ã½Press for 25 years, and <b>Edward &ldquo;Ned&rdquo; Shultz<\/b>, who is retiring after a distinguished faculty career of 39 years at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa including serving as interim dean of <abbr>SPAS<\/abbr> for the past six years and interim <abbr>AVC<\/abbr> for the past three years, will be missed. I want to take this opportunity to thank them for their distinguished careers at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa,&rdquo; said Dasenbrock.<\/p>\n<h2>Search committees<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Denise Konan<\/strong>, dean of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/natsci\/\">College of Social Sciences<\/a>, is chairing the SPAS\/OIEP Search Advisory Committee. <\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.hawaii.edu\/\">William S. Richardson School of Law<\/a> Dean <strong>Aviam Soifer<\/strong> is chairing the University Librarian Search Advisory Committee.<\/li>\n<li>Shultz, the current interim dean for <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/spas\/\">SPAS<\/a>, is leading the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Press Search Advisory Committee.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All three committees will recommend finalists to Chancellor <strong>Tom Apple<\/strong> and Vice Chancellor Dasenbrock.<\/p>\n<p>The committees members include chairs, faculty, staff and students from the respective units, as well as representatives of the Kualii Council, <a href=\"http:\/\/uhalumni.org\/s\/1220\/start.aspx\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> Alumni Association<\/a> and community.<\/p>\n<p>For all three job announcements, position descriptions, and Search Advisory Committee members, please visit the search website.
