She has been recognized by the Botanical Society of America, was the first Native Hawaiian woman to receive a <abbr title=\"Doctor of Philosophy\">PhD<\/abbr> in science and was the first woman on the biological sciences faculty at Stanford University, where she taught for 30 years.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>In <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>, the Honpa Hongwanji named her a Living Treasure. &ldquo;That moved me the most,&rdquo; Abbott told M\u0101lamalama, &ldquo;because it\u2019s for your contribution to your community.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Alumni Association recognized Abbott posthumously in 2011 with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_rPvpmg7flA\">Lifetime Achievement Award<\/a>.
