Those incarcerated at the H\u0101lawa Correctional Facility have an additional 168 paperback books in their library this week thanks to a book drive by the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa William S. Richardson School of Law<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The UH<\/abbr> law school partnered with the Friends of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Kai Library on the used book drive to bolster the library offerings for the inmates at the H\u0101lawa facility. The Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Kai Library donated an additional 250 paperbacks.<\/p>\n

Spencer Kimura<\/strong>, director of the law school\u2019s master of laws degree program and summer law programs, organized the drive and helped deliver the books on December 13. The books include thrillers by well-known authors such as Tom Clancy, Michael Crichton and John Grisham, as well as stories of modern-day adventures.<\/p>\n

“With your donations,” Kimura wrote to law school faculty, staff and students, “the inmates have the tools to broaden their skills and knowledge, and to connect with other people, worlds and experiences through reading.”<\/p>\n

Kimura learned of the pressing need for books while leading a visit to the prison by international students at the law school, one of the many external visits Kimura frequently arranges and leads.<\/p>\n
