Clement “Clem” Guthro<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Clement “Clem” Guthro<\/strong> has been named the new university librarian for the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa<\/a>. His appointment is effective January 2, 2020.<\/p>\n

Guthro is the former dean of the library at California State University Fullerton (CSUF<\/abbr>), where he oversaw strategic planning, staffing, budgeting and facilities.<\/p>\n

Prior to CSUF<\/abbr> Guthro served as the director of libraries at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, from 2003 to 2017. At Colby, he provided leadership for all areas of Colby\u2019s three libraries and on-campus library storage facility, and oversaw operations, staffing and budgeting. With a library leadership team of five assistant directors, he led facilities planning and management, strategic planning and innovation, and developed proposals for new initiatives, services and process improvements that advanced the library\u2019s mission and vision in support of the mission of the college.<\/p>\n

He is active in the American Library Association (ALA<\/abbr>), Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL<\/abbr>), Coalition for Networked Information, Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition and the International Federation of Library Associations. Recent and former professional appointments include ALA<\/abbr> Intellectual Freedom Committee, Editorial Board of the Journal of Intellectual Freedom and Privacy<\/em>, ACRL<\/abbr> liaison to ALA<\/abbr> International Relations Committee (2015–2020), HathiTrust Shared Print Advisory Committee and Advisory Board for Action-Oriented Research Agenda on Library Contributions to Student Learning and Success.<\/p>\n

Guthro holds an EdD<\/abbr> in higher education leadership from Nova Southeastern University, a master\u2019s in library science from the University of Western Ontario, and an MA<\/abbr> in theology from Point Loma Nazarene University.<\/p>\n
