Leeward Community College<\/a>\u2019s 29th annual Discovery Fair<\/a> features family fun and hands-on discovery on Saturday, November 2, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Admission, parking and all activities are free. Food vendors will offer a variety of items for purchase.<\/p>\n

The 29th Discovery Fair offers new activities such as Racing with Robots, created by the Integrated Industrial Technology program<\/a>, International Bingo and In Control, an interactive exhibit explaining motion controllers in virtual reality.<\/p>\n

New this year, Leeward\u2019s Service Committee is coordinating a toy drive to benefit the children and families affiliated with Catholic Charities Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> and foster children through Family Programs Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>. The first 250 families to bring in a new, unwrapped toy or game will receive a special thank you gift.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019re so excited that we can offer all the activities for free,” said Jenny Watada<\/strong>, faculty co-chair of Discovery Fair. “Each year, the faculty and staff keep looking for new ways to make learning fun. I think that\u2019s why so many families come back year after year!”<\/p>\n

  • Quicksand goo<\/strong>—a mysterious substance that\u2019s both solid and liquid\n
  • Slime time<\/strong>—the magic of polymers in a slippery, slimy substance that you can’t stop playing with\n
  • Play with clay<\/strong>—hands-on clay sculpting, including the opportunity to take a spin with a pottery wheel\n
  • Phun with Physics<\/strong>—physics phenomena explored: rolling, bouncing, racing, zipping, squishing and more!\n
  • Lightning bolt challenge<\/strong>—a speedy competition diving into the nuts and bolts of engines\n
  • Tours of the fossil and mineral and natural history exhibits<\/strong>\n<\/ul>\n

    • Fun with fish<\/strong>—learn the ancient art of gyotaku, the traditional Japanese method of creating an artistic fish print\n

    • Bubble geometry<\/strong>—stand inside a giant bubble or create some bubbles in a variety of shapes and sizes\n
    • Our story<\/strong>—take a selfie with our early human ancestor, the famous “Lucy”\n
    • Fashionistas<\/strong>—create paper dolls with Victorian Era fashions\n<\/ul>\n
