The program begins on the main stage at Kennedy Theatre at 5:30 p.m. followed at 6:30 p.m. with High Tea and &ldquo;talk story&rdquo; on the lanai. The doors open at 5 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. Knapp passed away on August 12 at the age of 87.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_104780\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-104780\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/manoa-theatre-damien-knapp-t.jpg\" alt=\"Terence Knapp\" width=\"250\" height=\"350\" class=\"size-full wp-image-104780\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/manoa-theatre-damien-knapp-t.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/manoa-theatre-damien-knapp-t-93x130.jpg 93w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/manoa-theatre-damien-knapp-t-214x300.jpg 214w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-104780\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Knapp as Father Damien, 1976<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Knapp, a classically trained actor, had an illustrious and wide ranging career on multiple continents before he was invited to <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> in 1970 by <strong>Earl Ernst<\/strong>, the founding chairman of the <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa Department of Theatre and Dance. He became a mainstay in stage productions in the islands, working with many of the local theatres as well as the Honolulu Symphony, Hawaii Opera Theatre and <abbr title=\"Public Broadcasting Service\">PBS<\/abbr> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>While Knapp brought many memorable characters to life on stage, he is perhaps best known for his performances as Father Damien, &ldquo;the leper priest of <span aria-label=\"Molokai\">Moloka&#699;i<\/span>.&rdquo; In 1976, Knapp directed himself in Aldyth Morris\u2019 one-man show <em>Damien<\/em>, and performed the role internationally. Damien was broadcast nationally on <abbr>PBS<\/abbr> and won numerous national awards.
