Studies in the field of social psychology show that it takes five positive interactions to make up for every one bad encounter you have with someone.<\/p>\n<p>During the month of October, people throughout <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> are participating in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acrhawaii.org\/51-kindness-challenge-2019\/\">Kindness Challenge<\/a>, and the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa\u2019s Campus Climate Initiatives and <a href=\"https:\/\/peaceinstitute.manoa.hawaii.edu\/\">Spark M. Matsunaga Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution<\/a> want the whole campus to be a part of it.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Strong relationships are the foundation to a strong community,&rdquo; said <strong>Amrita Mallik<\/strong>, campus climate program officer for <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa. &ldquo;This is a great opportunity for all of us at M\u0101noa to renew our commitment to treating each other with dignity, respect and kindness. Let&#8217;s see how far five small acts of kindness a day can take us!&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Pay someone a compliment. Offer a few encouraging words. Give a two thumbs ups. Smile and show appreciation. Make someone laugh. These simple actions can make someone\u2019s day. If you can change someone\u2019s life in just a few seconds, why not make it for the better.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Matsunaga Institute&#8217;s mission is to support peace building and relationship building, and kindness is one of our most important tools,&rdquo; said <strong>Jose Barzola<\/strong>, education specialist for the Spark M.
