I\u2019ve learned so much throughout this endeavor that I will take with me in the future,&rdquo; said Nakamoto. &ldquo;I couldn\u2019t have done it without the guidance provided by my mentor <strong>Patricia Couvillon<\/strong>; my committee member <strong>Lorey Takahashi<\/strong>, and Honors Program Director <strong>Vernadette Gonzalez<\/strong>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Nakamoto was a 2015 <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> Regents Scholar. Originally from Pearl City, he recently graduated from <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa with a <abbr title=\"bachelor of science\">BS<\/abbr> in psychology (with honors) and a <abbr>BS<\/abbr> in biology. <\/p>\n<p>This is the third year that a student from <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa earned the prestigious award. <strong>Jonathan Omuro<\/strong> and <strong>Brandy Dobson<\/strong> were Portz Scholars in 2016 and 2017, respectively. <\/p>\n<h2>About the Portz Scholars Program<\/h2>\n<p>The program was named in honor of John and Edythe Portz.
