It was one of five teams to earn a silver medal at the Cook. Craft. Create. American Culinary Federation National Convention and Show&#8212;considered the national collegiate culinary championship in Florida in August. Of the six teams that competed this year, one team won a bronze medal and there were no gold medalists.<\/p>\n<p>Team <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> is comprised of student chefs <strong>Greg Gamayo Jr.<\/strong> (captain), <strong>Ethan Momohara<\/strong>, <strong>Ritchie Wong<\/strong>, <strong>Kainoa Reloza<\/strong>, <strong>Xiaoling Cheng<\/strong>, lead chef instructor <strong>Jason Peel<\/strong> and chef instructor <strong>David Brown<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/kapiolani-culinary-2019-competition-entry1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/kapiolani-culinary-2019-competition-entry1-300x208.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"208\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-101145\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/kapiolani-culinary-2019-competition-entry1-300x208.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/kapiolani-culinary-2019-competition-entry1-130x90.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/kapiolani-culinary-2019-competition-entry1.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I&#8217;m so proud of our student team from <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> Community College to get this far. They really put their hearts out there on the plates and in the kitchen,&rdquo; said Peel. &ldquo;Although the national (gold) win didn\u2019t go our way this time, they represented <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> with dignity and pride.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Each team prepared a four-course menu, with 110 minutes to prep, cook, plate and serve all dishes to the judges within the time limit. They were judged on presentation, flavor, nutritional value, cooking technique, teamwork, sanitation and timing.<\/p>\n<p>The <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> CC team won a national gold medal in 2009 and silver medals in 2013 and 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Peel said, &ldquo;We are bringing home a silver medal and are going to keep fighting to bring home a national gold again.
