(Photo credit: <abbr>AAUW<\/abbr>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/hilo-hi.aauw.net\/\">American Association of University Women (<abbr>AAUW<\/abbr>) Hilo Branch<\/a> awarded $8,000 in scholarships to six women attending the <a href=\"https:\/\/hilo.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Hilo<\/a> and two attending <a href=\"https:\/\/hawaii.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Community College<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><abbr>AAUW<\/abbr> is a national organization that promotes equity and education for women and girls. For more than 65 years the Hilo Branch of <abbr>AAUW<\/abbr> has been assisting women and girls to achieve self-realization through education.<\/p>\n<p><strong><abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> Hilo recipients<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Shantel Akau<\/strong> plans on becoming a registered nurse and hopes to earn a graduate degree in nursing and become an advanced practice registered nurse.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Skye Narvaez<\/strong> will be graduating with her bachelors in communication and certificate in educational studies in fall 2019. Narvaez plans on pursuing a master\u2019s and doctorate in education.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Heather Padilla<\/strong> plans to become an English teacher with a certificate in creative writing.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ariana Dolan<\/strong> is pursuing a bachelor of science in agriculture specializing in animal science and is also obtaining a beekeeping certificate.
