The scholarship program was created in 1987 and has attracted some of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s best and brightest.<\/p>\n<h2>Regents Scholarships<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/system-RAPS-2019-candid.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/system-RAPS-2019-candid-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"student scholar\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-100199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/system-RAPS-2019-candid-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/system-RAPS-2019-candid-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/system-RAPS-2019-candid-630x353.jpg 630w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/system-RAPS-2019-candid.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Regents Scholarships are awarded to 20 incoming freshmen attending <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo and <abbr>UH<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The students receive four years of paid tuition for undergraduate studies, a stipend of $4,000 per year and a one-time $2,000 travel voucher. They also have the opportunity to participate in a number of activities.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo; So with this program we also create activities for them throughout the year with their peers that we think will help them become more successful in college and also after they go out into the community,&rdquo; <abbr>UH<\/abbr> President <strong>David Lassner<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<p>The scholarships were welcome news to the Tucker family. Two of the triplets received Regents Scholarships after graduating from Waipahu High School.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;For us it\u2019s really a huge relief because we were considering going to <abbr>UH<\/abbr> anyway. Having two scholarships really helps us to pursue our careers,&rdquo; <strong>Dylan Tucker<\/strong> said. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Linnea Tucker<\/strong> said she sees other advantages to remaining in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>. &ldquo;For me, I like to think the networking is really nice,&rdquo; she said. While she is a declared nursing student, she has other plans as well. &ldquo;I want to have a future career in law and currently have an internship with Judge (Edward) Kubo. I hope to continue that as I attend <abbr>UH<\/abbr>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>Presidential Scholarships<\/h2>\n<p>The <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Presidential Scholarships go to 10 juniors attending a <abbr>UH<\/abbr> campus. Presidential scholars receive full tuition for two years of undergraduate study.
