The UH Manoa Biocultural Initiative of the Pacific is part of a $500,000 multi-university project that will explore how to make interdisciplinary research more effective and impactful.
The institute will promote environmental sustainability and community resilience in Âé¶¹´«Ã½ through the organization of sustainability-focused curricula and solution-oriented approaches to research and community partnerships.
Beginning in fall 2018, University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½ at ²Ñ¨¡²Ô´Ç²¹ students will be able to pursue a combined undergraduate and graduate degree in environmental planning in five years.
Highlights include fall 2018 enrollment update, UH ²Ñ¨¡²Ô´Ç²¹ photovoltaic canopy project, Kapiʻolani CC sustainability certificate and more.
The photovoltaic canopy project is expected to save the university between $2 million to $8 million over its lifetime, depending on future energy costs.
Six proposed bicycle stations will be available at various locations on campus starting in August and September.
Part of the grant will fund the design and build of a prototype Accessory Dwelling Unit, through a partnership involving the UH Albizia Project, DLNR and the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Forest Industry Association.
If effectively managed, several areas around Âé¶¹´«Ã½ could provide a great increase in coastal fishery stocks.
The Symphony of the Hawaiian Birds is a multidisciplinary effort to educate elementary and secondary students on Oʻahu about Âé¶¹´«Ã½¡¯s endangered native bird species and the importance of conservation efforts.
