In memoriam: Gary Varner, honored physicist, educator

Gary Varner, professor of physics and astronomy at UH 惭ā苍辞补, died on July 14.

Kaiser was an astronomer at IfA from 1998 to 2017.

Former UH Hilo Basketball Coach James Toshio Yagi died on June 14 at the age of 88.

Yannone served for six years on the UH Board of Regents, including two as chair and two as vice chair.

Loren Kroenke, emeritus faculty researcher in the UH Mānoa School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology, died on May 17 at the age of 84.

Andres Albano, Jr. passed away on March 28, 2023.

The globally regarded aquaculture economics educator and researcher died on February 20, 2023.

Eleanor Jane Sterling, director of the UH 惭ā苍辞补’s Hawai?i Institute of Marine Biology, died on February 11.

McMackin compiled a 29-25 head coaching record with UH and led the Rainbow Warriors to a pair of Sheraton 麻豆传媒 Bowl appearances in 2008 and 2010.

Irvine served the UH 惭ā苍辞补 College of Education from 2007 until her death on January 27, 2023.
