Honolulu CC launches spring 2026 workforce training opportunities: trades, fashion, safety and more

Honolulu Community College’s Continuing Education Department is launching a comprehensive slate of spring 2026 non-credit courses designed to strengthen HawaiÊ»i’s workforce, support lifelong learning, and create clearer pathways between non-credit training and credit academic programs. This semester’s offerings reflect Honolulu CC’s commitment to responsive, industry-centered education, aligning short-term training with academic programs and workforce demand. Courses are open to the public and offered primarily during evenings and weekends to support working learners.

Aligned pathways in the skilled trades

Welding remains a critical workforce priority across HawaiÊ»i’s construction, manufacturing and infrastructure sectors. The spring welding fundamentals course is intentionally aligned with Honolulu CC’s credit welding program and welding 152 course, allowing participants to build foundational skills that support future entry into the credit pathway. Hands-on instruction emphasizes oxyacetylene and arc welding, equipment operation, safety practices, and fabrication fundamentals to help learners explore welding as a career and prepare for credit or professional advancement.

Welding Fundamentals begins April 9, 2026, and meets Thursdays and Fridays from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. through May 29, 2026.

Electrical and plumbing recertification courses are also offered to support licensed professionals in maintaining state-required credentials and advancing their careers. These courses are taught by experienced industry practitioners and respond directly to workforce demand.

Language access and workforce readiness

The Honolulu CC English Language Learner Options (HELLO) program offers non-credit English instruction for learners at multiple levels. HELLO supports listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary development, helping participants gain confidence for success in college, the workplace and daily life. HELLO serves as an important access point to additional education and career pathways.

HELLO runs March 2 through April 9, 2026 and meets Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 12 to 2 p.m.

Foundational safety training

Honolulu CC is launching Foundational Safety Training Level 1 and Level 2 as a joint initiative developed in partnership with the HawaiÊ»i Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT), and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Union. These programs were designed to expand the pipeline of skilled talent for HawaiÊ»i’s entertainment and creative industries, particularly in areas such as stage production, live events, film and facilities operations. Training includes industry-recognized certifications such as CPR/First Aid/AED, OSHA 10, Aerial Lifts, Forklift, Fall Protection and Scaffolding Competent Person.

1. Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid runs February 24–25 from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

2. OSHA 10 (General Industry) runs February 26–28 with Thursday 4–9 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.– 3 p.m. sessions.

3. Aerial Lifts/MEWPS runs March 3–5 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.

4. Forklift Certification runs March 10–12 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.

5. Fall Protection runs March 17–19 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.

6. Scaffolding Competent Person runs April 11 from 7 a.m. to 4  p.m.

Creative Industries and Credit Program Alignment

This spring marks the launch of a new Fashion and Sublimation Printing series, a three-course, hands-on creative pathway aligned with Honolulu CC’s credit Fashion Program. Across three progressive courses, participants learn design fundamentals, digital production and portfolio development using industry-grade sublimation equipment. Students develop original designs and a cohesive collection, gaining experience that complements the credit curriculum and prepares them for creative careers or entrepreneurial ventures.

1. Fashion and Sublimation 1 runs March 17 through April 2, 2026, and meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Registration closes March 10, 2026.

2. Fashion and Sublimation 2 runs April 7 through April 30, 2026, and meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Registration closes April 1, 2026. 

3. Fashion and Sublimation 3 runs May 5 through June 4, 2026, and meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Supporting HawaiÊ»i’s workforce through connected learning

By intentionally aligning non-credit courses with credit programs and partnering with state agencies and industry leaders, Honolulu CC Continuing Education is strengthening pathways that support workforce development, career mobility and lifelong learning. All spring 2026 courses are open to the public and many are designed to serve as entry points into longer-term academic and career pathways within the Âé¶¹´«Ã½Community College system.
