
Three University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½ at ²Ñ¨¡²Ô´Ç²¹ were recognized by the Mountain West Conference following the Rainbow Warriors¡¯ 44-26 win over Utah State on October 11.
Quarterback Micah Alejado was named Freshman of the Week, linebacker Jamih Otis earned Defensive Player of the Week, and placekicker Kansei Matsuzawa was selected Special Teams Player of the Week.
Alejado continued his record-setting pace, throwing for 413 yards and three touchdowns, while adding his first career rushing score. This marks his third Mountain West honor this season and fourth of his career.
Otis anchored the defense with five tackles, a forced fumble and his first career interception, contributing to two touchdowns and sealing the victory in the fourth quarter. This was his first award this season and second in his career.
Matsuzawa remained perfect on the season, converting all three field-goal attempts to improve to 19-for-19. He has also made 20 consecutive field goals, tying UH legend Jason Elam¡¯s school record. Matsuzawa co-leads the nation with eight field goals from 40+ yards and moved into eighth place on UH¡¯s all-time list. This week marks his fourth time receiving the honor.
The trio helped the Rainbow Warriors snap an eight-game losing streak to the Aggies while posting a season-high 546 yards of total offense. UH improved to 5-2 on the year and 2-1 in the Mountain West. The ¡®Bows will head on the road for a match-up with Colorado State on October 18. Kickoff is 1 p.m. Âé¶¹´«Ã½ time.
