
The University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½ at ²Ñ¨¡²Ô´Ç²¹ Athletics¡¯ annual Giving Week: Our Team. Âé¶¹´«Ã½¡¯s Team, drew more than 1,200 donors and raised over $1.34 million to benefit UH ²Ñ¨¡²Ô´Ç²¹¡¯s student-athletes.
Funds will enhance scholarships, academic resources, nutrition, mental health services and athletic facilities.
“Thanks to the generosity of our community, including transformative support from alumni Gabe and Shirley Lee, this has become our most successful effort yet,” said UH ²Ñ¨¡²Ô´Ç²¹ Athletics Director Matt Elliott.
A highlight of the week was the Âé¶¹´«Ã½¡¯s Team Drive telethon, broadcast live on KHON2 with support from ʻAhahui Koa ?nuenue, UH Foundation and UH Athletics. The event raised nearly $90,000 and featured stories from student-athletes and coaches, including Laura Beeman, Robyn Ah Mow and Landon Sims.
UH President Wendy Hensel noted, “Giving Week highlighted the university¡¯s mission in action. Every contribution directly supports excellence and expands access for our student-athletes.”
Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Gov. Josh Green, Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi, UH President Wendy Hensel and former coaches June Jones and Dave Shoji also joined alumni and community leaders to express their support.
The campaign featured cultural programming, including a Sam Choy¡¯s In The Kitchen segment on nutrition, and appearances by alumni athletes such as Kolten Wong, Nani Cockett and Artie Wilson. Messages from volleyball greats Yuval Katz and Costas Theocharidis, and a musical performance by entertainer Henry Kapono added to the celebration.
Contributions came from across 32 states, and will benefit all 21 UH ²Ñ¨¡²Ô´Ç²¹ teams.
“This generosity demonstrates the impact philanthropy has when our community invests in Hawai¡®i¡¯s future,” said UH Foundation CEO and UH Vice President of Advancement Tim Dolan.
