The will bring together more than two dozen global and local cancer experts at the ¡¯s Sullivan Conference Center January 22–24. This free event is open to the public, with a special invitation extended to high school and college students interested in science.

This year¡¯s focus is gene-environment (GxE) research, which examines how genetic variants and environmental factors combine to increase cancer risk. GxE studies aim to identify high-risk individuals for proactive prevention and treatment.

Speakers from the U.S., Canada, China, France, Israel, Italy and Norway will share groundbreaking cancer research. Nobel laureates in medicine and chemistry and UH Cancer Center experts, including Director Naoto Ueno, Michele Carbone, Haining Yang, Herbert Yu, will present on critical advancements in the field.

“The Weinman Symposium is a cornerstone for advancing cancer research in Â鶹´«Ã½ and globally,” said Michele Carbone, co-founder and human cancer genetics expert. “It¡¯s an opportunity to collaborate with world-class scientists and improve patient outcomes.”

Founded by Barry and Virginia Weinman, who passed away in 2024 and 2023, respectively, the symposium is supported by the Weinman Foundation Fund for Innovation. Their $7.1 million gift to the UH Cancer Center established this annual gathering to foster collaboration among international experts in science and medicine.
