The programs won (CMA) and (ACP) Awards at #collegemedia19, the ACP/CMA Fall National College Media Convention held in Washington, D.C. from October 31 to November 3.

The programs, consisting of Ka Leo O Âé¶¹´«Ã½, KTUH 90.3, Hawaii Review and UH Productions, were recognized during the CMA Pinnacle Awards, ACP Individual Awards and the CMA Film and Audio Festival.

“It¡¯s an honor for Ka Leo to be recognized for their editorial work,” said Ka Leo O Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Editor in Chief Chavonnie Ramos. “We will continue to strive to be a relevant news source not only for University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½ students, but throughout the community as well.”

UH Productions General Manager Wesley Honda, shared his support for the Student Media programs as well.

“I am proud of my staff for taking the initiative in self-producing and sharing their work for the world to see. Striving to improve and dedicating oneself to honing their craft is what truly separates those who dream and those who make their dreams a reality.”

CMA Pinnacle Awards

The is a national contest to recognize excellence in student-produced college media from the CMA. The Student Media programs won awards in the following categories:

  • Online Pinnacles: – First Place – ²Ñ¨¡²Ô´Ç²¹ Now
  • Online Pinnacles: – Third Place – Ka Leo O Âé¶¹´«Ã½
  • Photo Pinnacles: – Second Place – Ka Leo O Âé¶¹´«Ã½
  • Advertising Pinnacles: – Second Place – ²Ñ¨¡²Ô´Ç²¹ Now

ACP Individual Awards

The ACP Individual Awards categorize each type of publication as either online, newspaper, yearbook or magazine. All entries are judged based on the following criteria: coverage and content, quality of writing and reporting, leadership, design, photography and graphics.

UH¡¯s Student Media programs were recognized in two different categories:

  • Design of the Year: : First Place – Amy Lowe
  • Photo of the Year: – Honorable Mention – Shafkat Anowar

CMA Film and Audio Festival

The looks at top-notch projects in over 13 categories. The original student works are then ranked according to presentation, technical proficiency, proper file submission, ethical considerations and meeting the deadline. Student Media won first place in the creative category with a video produced by Nainoa Andrade about the Punahou Carnival.
