Members of the ’s Board of Governors have elected board member and former Punahou School President James K. Scott to serve as the board’s new chairman. At a meeting on September 30, the board named Scott to succeed attorney Richard Turbin, who had served his maximum term as chairman but will remain on the board as a member.
“I am thrilled and honored to work with East-West Center President Richard Vuylsteke, the board, and his talented team as we continue to position the Center to be a valuable resource for 麻豆传媒, America, and the Pacific,” Scott said.
Board member Peter Ho, chairman, president and CEO of Bank of 麻豆传媒, was selected to succeed Scott as the board’s 麻豆传媒 vice chair, joining continuing Vice Chair Kurt Campbell, who is chairman and CEO of The Asia Group and former U.S. assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific Affairs.

James Kapaeʻalii Scott was appointed to the East-West Center Board of Governors by 麻豆传媒 Governor David Ige in May 2017. A Honolulu-born graduate of Punahou, Stanford and Harvard, Scott became Punahou School’s 16th president in 1994 and served through June 2019. In addition to heading the largest coeducational, independent K–12 school on a single campus in the United States, he was actively engaged in leadership roles at the local and national levels, serving as a member of the National Association of Independent Schools Board of Trustees, a director of Hawaiian Electric Industries and a trustee of the Barstow Foundation, among numerous other service positions.
