Jerrold Michael

Jerrold Michael, a retired professor and former dean of the UH School of Public Health (now the UH ), passed away in the Washington, D.C., area on July 25. He was 90 years old.

Michael led UH public health for two decades, spending a total of 25 years at the university beginning in 1971. Before coming to UH ²Ñ¨¡²Ô´Ç²¹, he was a rear admiral in the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps and was the nation’s youngest USPHS assistant surgeon general.

“Dean Jerrold Michael was a scholar and a mentor to many of us in public health,” said Satoru Izutsu, emeritus professor at the UH (JABSOM). “His vision of a peaceful world through public health and its activities was unwavering.”
