The Âé¶¹´«Ã½ State Senate honored five Hawaiian language kumu for their leadership in reviving and teaching ʻ¨­±ô±ð±ô´Ç Âé¶¹´«Ã½ in our schools statewide.

The Âé¶¹´«Ã½ state Senate honored five Hawaiian language kumu (teachers) from the for their leadership in reviving and teaching ʻ¨­±ô±ð±ô´Ç Âé¶¹´«Ã½ (the Hawaiian language) on February 16, 2018.

The five UH faculty recognized on the Senate floor are:

  • Papaikan¨©ʻau Kaiʻanui, Hawaiian studies instructor and program coordinator, UH Maui College
  • Larry Lindsey Kimura, associate professor of Hawaiian language and Hawaiian studies, Ka Haka ʻUla O Keʻelikolani, UH Hilo
  • Kananinohea “Kanani” Kawaiʻaeʻa M¨¡kaʻimoku, assistant professor, ʻUla O Keʻelikolani, UH Hilo
  • Florence Lolena Nicholas, instructor, Kawaihuelani Center for Hawaiian Language, UH ²Ñ¨¡²Ô´Ç²¹
  • Annette Ipo Wong, associate professor and director, Kawaihuelani Center for Hawaiian Language, UH ²Ñ¨¡²Ô´Ç²¹
