The University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½ at ²Ñ¨¡²Ô´Ç²¹’s hosts spring 2018 events featuring hikes, lectures, classes and demonstrations.



January 20, February 17, March 17 and April 21, 9:30–11:30 a.m.
It is documented that both being in nature and practicing mindfulness, with yoga and meditation, benefits your health. Experience these benefits by joining a mindfulness-based guided hike through Lyon Arboretum followed by yoga in a studio with stunning views of ²Ñ¨¡²Ô´Ç²¹ Valley.


turmeric and spice
February 23, 9:30–11:30 a.m.
Health-promoting plants are easily accessible in Âé¶¹´«Ã½. Become familiar with several health-promoting plants by encountering, exploring, growing and examining how to use these plants for personal healthcare. Join instructor Susanna Reid for a lively discussion.


Hawaiian ferns
March 23, 9:30–11:30 a.m.
The Hawaiian ferns specialist Kay Lynch will suggest ways to simulate forest conditions to successfully grow 10 species. Propagation by spores, by division and by micropropagation will be explained. Lynch operates Laʻau Âé¶¹´«Ã½, a Hawaiian fern research nursery.


April 20, 9:30–11:30 a.m.
breadfruit
Chef Mark Noguchi will demonstrate delicious ways to cook this powerhouse nutrient rich fruit. Touted as a wonder food, students will learn how to deliciously incorporate breadfruit into their daily diet. Chef Noguchi’s culinary philosophy is to use only fresh, local vegetables, meat and fish. He was awarded the Star Chef Award in 2012.
