Albie Miles, an agroecologist and assistant professor of , received a $154,000 grant from Kamehameha Schools.?The grant funds research and promotional activities relating to the advancement of sustainable community food systems in Â鶹´«Ã½.
The grant supports?two positions in the program:
- An indigenous natural resources management junior?specialist, which is currently filled by Daniel “Bubba” Lipe who is conducting research and teaching at the intersection of traditional ecological knowledge and western science. Lipe is?responsible for creating a wide range of courses on traditional food and agricultural systems of Â鶹´«Ã½ and beyond.
- A UH West Oʻahu manager, currently occupied by Tasia Yamamura who manages the garden and offers a range of programs for the campus and surrounding community.
Kamehameha Schools received a record 150 proposals requesting more than $60 million in funding. ?as part of an?ʻAina Ulu?grant?to?manage agricultural and conservation?lands and provide culture-based and place-based learning opportunities.
