Tyler Lum, a (HBEP) student employee, was named the for the University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½ at Mānoa as well as the State of Âé¶¹´«Ã½. He now has the chance to win the Western Regional SEOTY award, and then compete for the top national award.

”We would like to offer our heartiest congratulations to Tyler Lum on being awarded the Student Employee of the Year for UH Mānoa and the state of Âé¶¹´«Ã½,” said Darren Okimoto, associate director of Sea Grant.

Lum combined the experience and knowledge gained through the UH Mānoa with effective education and outreach targeting the nearly 800,000 annual visitors to the . He helps with volunteer training, group visits, service-learning and the weekly outreach seminar series. He also works alongside 120 Hanauma Bay Education Program volunteer docents in the education stations throughout the nature preserve.

“Tyler has made substantial contributions to our University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Sea Grant College Program’s Hanauma Bay Education Program through his hard work and dedication,” said Okimoto. “Among his many talents is his creativity in translating scientific concepts and conservation messages into art work such as our comic series and graphic designs for the lapel pin that we give out annually to our volunteer docents.”
