Assistant Professor ?has been awarded a , Germany Junior International Fellowship.
Hynson will help develop a field biology course for undergraduates from Europe interested in tropical ecology. She will also expand her current research collaborations with faculty and students from the University of Bayreuth to further examine the ecology and biogeography of orchids and their symbiotic fungi.
This three year fellowship is awarded to international scholars nominated by deans from the University of Bayreuth from a worldwide pool of candidates from all disciplines. By committee selection, five junior and five senior fellowships were awarded. Fellows are selected based on their likelihood of making lasting contributions through teaching and research to the University of Bayreuth’s global network of partners.

Hynson began as an assistant professor in the at UH Mānoa in 2012, prior to which she was a postdoctoral researcher at University of California, Irvine. She?completed her PhD at the University of California, Berkeley. Her studies the ecology and evolution of the mycorrhizal symbiosis between plants and root-inhabiting fungi.
