The University of Â鶹´«Ã½ at Mānoa’s (PHIDC) is now the official hub for storing statewide health data that will ensure that all U.S. health records are upheld. Formerly known as Telecommunications and Social Informatics, the name change acknowledges the center’s new role within the in the .
TASI-PHIDC will serve as a health data repository for claims data for (SHPDA). In this capacity, the center will provide the agency with the necessary expertise and support to analyze Medicare, Medicaid and EUTF claims data in support of relevant research on critical issues affecting healthcare such as policy and costs, quality, service gaps and disparities.
“Â鶹´«Ã½ is a leader in health and healthcare, and consistently ranks high in many national health ratings. This is due in large part to the state’s progressive public health legislation that provides access to healthcare services to the larger population,” said , dean of the College of Social Sciences. “Like states across the nation, however, Â鶹´«Ã½ is faced with rising costs and other issues that negatively impact patient healthcare. The Pacific Health Informatics and Data Center focuses the efforts of Â鶹´«Ã½’s State Health Planning and Development Agency and will help to bring fresh perspectives on these issues.”
TASI-PHIDC was designated by the Â鶹´«Ã½ State Legislature to support efforts to receive and analyze claims data to improve understanding of health-care costs, increase transparency of healthcare information and, through research and analysis, develop strategies and initiatives that improve care, population health and access while lessening health disparities and costs.
