University of Â鶹´«Ã½ graduate Ekolu Ah Yee drew laughs and joyful tears as the student speaker at the University of Â鶹´«Ã½ Maui College, commencement ceremony on May 13, 2016. The Molokaʻi native earned associate degrees in Hawaiian studies and liberal arts and worked at the center as a tutor.

Ah Yee intends to become a teacher. “What better way to give back to my community than becoming a teacher by helping the next generation find their way through this crazy world we live in.”

“College has opened so many new doors for me. It has made me comfortable enough to stand before each and everyone of you today, and give a speech. Five years ago, you wouldn’t catch me dead up here. No ways.”
