Bill HB555 rightly met with stiff resistance from students and faculty and is now deferred.

The solutions proposed in the report save approximately $1.3million, $500K and $1.8million respectively. The problem is the deficit could reach $4million this year, $3.8million next year and $5million in 2017. Those figures mean that the proposed solutions are not solutions at all. They are not even band aids. Those numbers can all be found in the report.

I like the last paragraph on page 12 of the report that is highlighted and discusses how it is expensive to fire your coach and how it is probably better to keep a poor performing coach on rather than fire them. The attempt at positive spin is commendable, however, this just goes to show how the University is really run and it makes a mockery of what Bley-Vroman wrote “This report provides valuable information and guidance as we work with all of our stakeholders to develop the best possible plan to ensure the stability and success of the athletic department,” said 鶹ýManoa Chancellor Robert Bley-Vroman. “鶹ýathletics is not only important to the university, but to the entire state and we must do everything we can to put it in the best possible position to thrive.” How is that going to happen if mediocrity and underperformance are the mantra of 鶹ýAdmin and the athletics department?

Come on 鶹ýyou must do better.
