Jillian Roque at the 2012 National ADDY Awards in Austin, Texas

communication art student Jillian Roque represented the state of Âé¶¹´«Ã½ at the prestigious 2012 National ADDY Awards in Austin, Texas on June 5, 2012. Roque was recogized with a silver award. She was one of 66 students honored out of 5,597 student entries submitted.

Her award-winning brochure is a hardbound booklet that incorporates the company, Urban Wood’s philosophy of transforming reclaimed garbage into beautiful furniture pieces. Using dissolving photos, the interactive brochure was a visual delight for the judges.

AAF is the nation’s oldest national advertising trade association, and the only association representing all facets of the advertising industry. Roque’s brochure entry received silver distinction at the Pele Awards in Honolulu in April and was then entered into the national competition.

Roque will graduate with her associate in science degree in communication art in Spring 2013 and hopes to pursue a career as a graphic designer. Along with carrying a full course load, she interns at the where she designs marketing collateral for PCATT, and is a student assistant at UH Mānoa’s .

“The caliber of work at the show has given me the motivation to work even harder and push the limits of my work,” said Roque. “It’s a highly competitive field and I want to do whatever I can to make my work stand out from the rest. This experience has given me more confidence in my abilities as an aspiring designer and for myself overall. Career-wise my heart is finally where it belongs,” said Roque.
