  	{"id":8013,"date":"2023-06-23T15:29:50","date_gmt":"2023-06-24T01:29:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/lis\/?p=8013"},"modified":"2025-08-14T22:41:02","modified_gmt":"2025-08-15T08:41:02","slug":"keahiahi-long-joins-the-lis-faculty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/lis\/keahiahi-long-joins-the-lis-faculty\/","title":{"rendered":"Keahiahi Long joins the LIS faculty!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Please join us in welcoming Assistant Professor Keahiahi Long to the LIS faculty in a new position dedicated to Hawaiian librarianship, starting in Fall 2023!\u00a0 Keahiahi currently serves as Librarian at Kamakak\u016bokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies, and has taught courses in Foundations of Hawaiian Collections, \u2018A\u2018ole I Pau: Kanaka Worldviews and Librarianship, as well as Hawaiian Archival Research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keahiahi lives in Maunalua, O\u02bbahu, is a mea hula no Wa\u02bbahila, and is a practitioner of Hawaiian librarianship. A co-founder of N\u0101 Hawai\u02bbi \u02bbImi Loa, a Native Hawaiian library association, Keahiahi is dedicated to advancing the wellbeing of our communities through information and knowledge caretaking. As a Co-PI on projects like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.laualaukaike.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lau \u0100 Lau Ka \u02bbIke<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/kawaihapai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ka Wai H\u0101pai<\/a>, Keahiahi&#8217;s recent work focuses on Indigenous knowledge organization systems. Keahiahi holds a Master\u2019s Degree in Library and Information Science and Bachelor\u2019s Degrees in Hawaiian Language and Hawaiian Studies from the University of Hawai\u02bbi at M\u0101noa.
