{"id":15101,"date":"2025-09-11T18:00:54","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T04:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/issmanoa\/?p=15101"},"modified":"2025-09-11T15:11:23","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T01:11:23","slug":"new-u-s-visa-policy-interview-location-requirements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/issmanoa\/?p=15101","title":{"rendered":"New U.S. Visa Policy: Interview Location Requirements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>(Email sent 9\/11\/2025 at approximately 6:00pm to ISS International Students)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dear International Students,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This email contains critical information about a new U.S. visa policy that will impact your ability to apply for a visa.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/travel\/en\/News\/visas-news\/adjudicating-nonimmigrant-visa-applicants-in-their-country-of-residence-sep-6-2025.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">September 6, 2025 news posting<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Department of State announced that effective immediately<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> all nonimmigrant visa applicants (including F-1 and J-1 students) should schedule their visa interviews in their country of citizenship or legal residence.\u00a0 This ends any option of getting a visa in a third country. However, existing appointments will generally not be cancelled by this new policy. Furthermore, citizens of countries with no visa services must make appointments at designated embassies or consulates (see <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/travel\/en\/News\/visas-news\/adjudicating-nonimmigrant-visa-applicants-in-their-country-of-residence-sep-6-2025.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">announcement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for list).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What You Need To Do:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Visit Our Dedicated Webpage on this policy: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/issmanoa\/?page_id=15094\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New U.S. Visa Interview Location Policy: Apply in Your Home Country (Effective Sept 6, 2025)<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Plan Ahead &amp; Consult:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Do NOT make non-refundable travel plans until you have a confirmed visa appointment in your home country.
