Each signature is valid for entries within 12 months of the signature date, except for F-1 students on Post-Completion OPT or STEM Extension, which is 6 months. Request a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/issmanoa\/?page_id=11112\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">travel authorization <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">signature from the ISS office. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-13532-0-0-1\" class=\"so-panel widget_sow-editor\" data-index=\"1\" ><div id=\"TravelConsiderations\" class=\"panel-widget-style panel-widget-style-for-13532-0-0-1\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t><h2 class=\"widget-title\">What do I need to consider when traveling internationally?<\/h2>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<h3 id=\"Layovers\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Third-Country Travel or International Layovers<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are traveling to a country other than the U.S. which is not your country of citizenship or legal permanent residence, it is your responsibility to determine whether you need a visa to enter that country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Transit visas may be required for travel in certain countries, even if you do not plan to leave the airport. If your international travel involves changing planes in a third country, it is your responsibility to find out whether you need to apply for a transit visa. Contact your airline to determine whether you are required to apply for a visa to any country in your itinerary.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"AutoRevalidation\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Automatic Revalidation<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Generally, international students must present a valid, unexpired F or J student visa each time they enter the U.S., except for Canadian citizens.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An exception to this rule exists for F and J students who travel for less than 30 days to a \u201ccontiguous territory\u201d (Canada, Mexico, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/sevis\/travel\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">adjacent islands<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, except Cuba) on an expired student visa provided they have proper documentation and have not applied for a new visa during the visit. This is the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/travel\/en\/us-visas\/visa-information-resources\/visa-expiration-date\/auto-revalidate.html\">automatic visa revalidation<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> provision.\u00a0 Under this provision, the expired visa is considered to be automatically extended to the date of readmission.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>To take advantage of automatic visa revalidation, the following must apply:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have maintained valid status while in the U.S.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The visit is ONLY to Canada, Mexico and adjacent islands, except Cuba, and does NOT exceed 30 days. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have NOT applied for a new visa at a U.S. consulate.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Applying for a visa stamp while abroad disqualifies a person from re-entry using automatic visa revalidation.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have a valid passport for at least six months from date of re-entry to the U.S., unless your country is a member of the so-called \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/document\/bulletins\/six-month-club-update\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">six-month club<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Possess a valid, unexpired admission stamp OR <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/i94.cbp.dhs.gov\/I94\/#\/home\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I-94 Arrival\/Departure Record<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You must apply for readmission to the U.S. within the authorized period of your current immigration status.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have the correct visa-specific documents and must have maintained and intend to resume your non-immigrant status:\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">F-1 Students:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"3\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/issmanoa\/?page_id=11112\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A valid I-20 and travel endorsement<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"3\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A valid OPT card\/STEM OPT card (if applicable)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">J-1 Students:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"3\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/issmanoa\/?page_id=11112\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A valid DS-2019 and\u00a0 travel endorsement<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you <\/span><strong>changed status<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> while in the U.S. from an nonimmigrant to another nonimmigrant classification (e.g. H-1 to F-1) using Form I-539 and received the Change of Status Approval Notice (Form I-797) you also can use the automatic visa\u00a0 revalidation provision. When returning to the U.S., you should be re-admitted using the same form I-94 (either paper or electronic).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The U.S Customs and Border Protection officer has full discretion to determine whether a visa will be automatically revalidated. As part of their mission they maintain a list of countries and regions where, due to sanctions, certain services (like Duo Mobile Multi-Factor Authentication) are block within their borders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This list currently includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cuba (CU)<\/li>\n<li>North Korea - Democratic People's Republic of Korea (KP)<\/li>\n<li>Iran (IR)<\/li>\n<li>Sudan (SD)<\/li>\n<li>Syria (SY)<\/li>\n<li>Crimea region (43)<\/li>\n<li>Donetsk region (14)<\/li>\n<li>Luhansk region (09)<\/li>\n<li>Sevastopol region (40)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Those traveling to an OFAC listed country may lose permission to access certain Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">M\u0101noa <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">systems.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please review the ISS <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">M\u0101noa <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">webpage on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/issmanoa\/?page_id=13300\">Information For Areas with Limited Âé¶¹´«Ã½Service Access<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-13532-0-0-5\" class=\"so-panel widget_sow-editor panel-last-child\" data-index=\"5\" ><div id=\"EntryProblems\" class=\"panel-widget-style panel-widget-style-for-13532-0-0-5\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t><h2 class=\"widget-title\">U.S. Entry Problems<\/h2>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<h3 id=\"I515A\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Global Entry or Nexus<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do NOT use Global Entry or NEXUS, or an automated passport kiosk to enter the U.S. Go to the regular passport line and\u00a0 speak with a US Customs and Border Protection (US CBP) Officer.\u00a0 Present your visa documents to be admitted into the U.S, in the proper F or J student status.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although Global Entry or NEXUS offers a faster entry process, it\u00a0 is very likely you will be admitted\u00a0 into the U.S. as a tourist in the B visa category. Tourist or visitor visa status does not permit you to study or work in the U.S. This will cause difficulties and prevent you from beginning your studies or appointment at Âé¶¹´«Ã½Manoa. In extreme cases you may be required to fly home and re-enter the U.S. in the correct F or J student status, at your own expense. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Form I-515A Issuance<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students who arrive at the U.S. port of entry without required immigration documents or SEVIS status issue may be denied entry. In some cases, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer may choose to offer you temporary admission into the U.S. with the Form I-515A instead. The ISS office will receive an email alert for students issued the I-515A.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Students must comply with the I-515A conditions within 30 days, or else depart the U.S. before the end of the 30 day period.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Read more about the Form I-515A from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/studyinthestates.dhs.gov\/students\/travel\/form-i-515a-overview\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Department of Homeland Security's Form I-515A Overview<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What to do if you\u2019ve received a Form I-515A<\/span><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An ISS Advisor will email you regarding the I-515A issuance. If you have not heard from an ISS Advisor within 2 business days, please contact <\/span><a href=\"mailto:issmanoa@hawaii.edu\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">issmanoa@hawaii.edu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for assistance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An ISS Advisor will email you with instructions and to schedule a time to meet with you in person. This email will include a list of documents required to satisfy the I-515A conditions. You must bring the specified documents to your appointment with ISS.<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ISS Advisor may need additional time to process your request. In that case, the advisor will collect your documents at the time of your appointment. Please allow 3-5 business days for processing if additional review is needed. In other cases, processing may be completed during the scheduled appointment.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once processing is complete, you will receive the electronic I-515A packet through the Âé¶¹´«Ã½Filedrop system along with instructions on how to submit to SEVP.<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any paper documents will be placed at the front desk for pick-up if necessary.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The student must send the completed I-515A packet to the SEVP I-515A processing team immediately through email* and within 30 days of arrival in the U.S.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*Note: Beginning June 26, 2024, F and J students who received a Form I-515A from the U.S. CBP will be instructed to email required documents to the SEVP Processing Team instead of mailing the documents to SEVP.
