Configuration Guides

As a best practice, always apply any configuration changes in a test environment first to identify any potential issues.

The CIS develops configuration guides, which they refer to as benchmarks. The CIS benchmarks provide best practices for the secure configuration of a specific target system. Most CIS benchmarks have multiple configuration profiles based on the level of security you are looking to implement:

  • Level 1 - Base recommendations that can be implemented in a shorter time frame and is designed to not have an extensive performance impact.
  • Level 2 - Intended for environments requiring a high level of security. Level 2 requires the implementation of both Level 1 and Level 2 settings.
