Every college and\/or state has different &#8220;priority deadlines,&#8221; which means although you can still apply for FAFSA after the deadline, if you apply by the priority deadline set by your college, you will likely qualify for <em>more<\/em> financial assistance opportunities.  \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Application opens every year on: <strong>October 1<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Priority deadlines for Âé¶¹´«Ã½campuses varies: visit your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/ecefunding\/contact-your-college%ca%bbs-financial-aid-office\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"222\">campus\u02bbs Financial Aid Office<\/a> to find out the exact deadline<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Save your FSA ID and password.<\/strong> You will set one up when you begin the FAFSA application.  Save and remember this ID # and password, you will need it every year to renew your FAFSA.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Federal Tax Returns.<\/strong> To complete the FAFSA, you will need your tax returns from the prior or current year (or if you are a dependent, the tax returns of whomever files you as a dependent). If you run into obstacles at this step, don\u02bbt give up! Ask someone for help.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Other Information\/Documents Needed.<\/strong> In addition to your taxes, you (or your parents, if you are a dependent) will need the following to complete your FAFSA:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Personal email address (we recommend NOT using High School email addresses)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personal Information (legal name, date of birth, social security number)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>W-2 Forms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>You must renew your FAFSA every year.<\/strong> In order to keep receiving funds every school year, you must renew your FAFSA. Instead of starting a whole new application, you just need to update your income and tax information starting when the application opens in October.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Federal School Codes.<\/strong> Every college campus has its own code number. When completing the FAFSA form, you will be asked to enter the codes for the schools you are applying to. Each college\u02bbs award package will look a little different, depending on what they are able to offer you.  It may be a combination of grants, scholarships and\/or loans (subsidized and unsubsidized).  <strong>You may opt to accept or deny these awards.<\/strong>  Most grants and scholarships are automatically applied to your account when you enroll in the college, whereas loans are left for you to choose whether or not you will accept them. It\u02bbs important to follow the instructions from your college&#8217;s Financial Aid Office to secure your awards. Be sure to be informed about your responsibilities for each award so you do not jeopardize future funding opportunities if you do not fulfill any requirements. If you\u02bbre not sure what are your responsibilities, be sure to ask!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Don\u02bbt Forget Other Sources of Funding!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u02bbt stop there!  You can also apply for other sources of funding <em>in addition to<\/em> your Financial Aid Award Package. These other sources of funding have separate application processes from completing the FAFSA. However, many of these other funding sources may request and\/or <strong>use results from your FAFSA<\/strong> to determine your scholarship eligibility, so completing your FAFSA is still an important first step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The chart below shows a very general overview of how funding sources are organized for Âé¶¹´«Ã½students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-stripes\" style=\"font-size:14px;font-style:normal;font-weight:300\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><th>Âé¶¹´«Ã½SYSTEM &amp; CAMPUS SPECIFIC<br><strong>(for Âé¶¹´«Ã½students)<\/strong><\/th><th>EXTERNAL SOURCES <br>(non-UH)<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>These are only open to Âé¶¹´«Ã½students, and may also have additional requirements to attend a particular Âé¶¹´«Ã½campus. If awarded, funding will probably be directly applied to your account through your campus&#8217;s Financial Aid Office or Billing Office. <\/td><td>Qualifying criteria is set by organizations outside of UH; any college student may apply to these sources of funding, not just Âé¶¹´«Ã½students.
