The following CIS faculty members are working on HCI projects that also extend to other areas:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/cis\/profile-ics\/?smid=1085\">Kim Binsted<\/a> - Entertaining and Affective Intelligent Interfaces (principal investigator of <a href=\"http:\/\/hi-seas.org\/\">HI-SEAS<\/a> Project);<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/cis\/profile-ics\/?smid=1099\">Scott Robertson<\/a> - HCI issues in digital democracy, social computing and civic engagement (head of <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/hichi\/people\/\">HICHI<\/a> lab);<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/cis\/profile-ics\/?smid=1014\">Dan Suthers<\/a> - How representational affordances of interfaces affect collaboration (director of <a href=\"http:\/\/lilt.ics.hawaii.edu\/\">LILIT<\/a> lab).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pgc-524-1-1\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-524-1-1-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-image panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"2\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-image so-widget-sow-image-default-8b5b6f678277-524\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t>\n<div class=\"sow-image-container\">\n\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" \n\tsrc=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/cis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/hci.jpg\" width=\"960\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/cis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/hci.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/cis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/hci-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/cis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/hci-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/cis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/hci-272x182.jpg 272w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" title=\"hci CIS PhD program\" alt=\"Interdisciplinary PhD HCI research\" \t\tclass=\"so-widget-image\"\/>\n\t<\/div>\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-524-2\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-524-2-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-524-2-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"3\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><div class=\"arconix-toggle-wrap\"><div class=\"arconix-toggle-title toggle-closed\"><i class='fa fa-plus-square'><\/i>&lt;strong&gt;Intelligent Agents &amp; Human-Robot Interaction&lt;\/strong&gt;<\/div><div class=\"arconix-toggle-content\"> <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/cis\/profile-ics\/?smid=1093\">Nancy Reed<\/a> is currently active in two funded research projects, the first focuses on developing autonomous agents in software and robotic applications (e.g. one environment examined is the TACSI Tactical Aircraft Simulator developed at Saab, AB), and the second (EASE - An End-user Actor Specification Environment) focuses on using artificial intelligence to support decision making, applications include the diagnosis of congenital heart defects.<\/p>\n<p>Other CIS faculty currently working in the Intelligent Agents &amp; Human-Robot Interaction area are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/cis\/profile-ics\/?smid=1104\">Susanne Still<\/a> and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/cis\/profile-ics\/?smid=1067\">David Chin<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/div><\/div><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pgc-524-2-1\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-524-2-1-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"4\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<div class=\"arconix-toggle-wrap\"><div class=\"arconix-toggle-title toggle-closed\"><i class='fa fa-plus-square'><\/i>&lt;strong&gt;Adaptive Interfaces&lt;\/strong&gt;<\/div><div class=\"arconix-toggle-content\"> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/cis\/profile-ics\/?smid=1091\">Martha Crosby<\/a> is currently researching different types of physiological measures used to assess the computer user\u2019s cognitive state.
