{"id":319,"date":"2016-10-03T05:26:05","date_gmt":"2016-10-03T05:26:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/cis\/?page_id=319"},"modified":"2025-12-04T06:08:34","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T06:08:34","slug":"requirements","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/cis\/prospective_students\/requirements\/","title":{"rendered":"Requirements"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"pl-319\"  class=\"panel-layout\" ><div id=\"pg-319-0\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-319-0-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-319-0-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_headline-widget panel-first-child\" data-index=\"0\" >\t\t<h1>REQUIREMENTS<\/h1>\n\t\t<div class=\"decoration\"><div class=\"decoration-inside\"><\/div><\/div>\n\t\t<h3>Requirements are set both by the CIS program itself and by the Graduate Division of the University of Hawai\u02bbi at M\u0101noa.<\/h3>\n\t\t<\/div><div id=\"panel-319-0-0-1\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor\" data-index=\"1\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t><h3 class=\"widget-title\">CIS Requirements<\/h3>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<p>To be considered for admissions, the CIS program requires that applicants have the following background:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A master's degree in one of the following fields or a closely related field:\n<ul>\n<li>Business Administration<\/li>\n<li>Communication<\/li>\n<li>Information and Computer Sciences<\/li>\n<li>Library and Information Science<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of computing.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated potential for conducting independent research.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated English proficiency.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you are not a U.S. citizen and did not receive your Master's degree from an English speaking institution, then an English Language Proficiency Test score is required. Any test listed as acceptable on the Graduate Division page <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/graduate\/english-proficiency-exemption-eligibility\/\">English Proficiency &amp; Exemption Eligibility<\/a> may be used, but must meet the \"Required Minimum Scores for ELI Placement Test Exemption\" indicated on that page.<\/p>\n<p>GRE or GMAT scores are now optional.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-319-0-0-2\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor\" data-index=\"2\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t><h3 class=\"widget-title\">Graduate Division Requirements<\/h3>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<p>The Graduate Division has its own requirements in addition to those of the CIS program.
