In collaboration with Governor Josh Green, M.D., Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke has launched Connect K\u0101kou with the following organizations: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hawai\u02bbi Broadband Office (HIBO),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>University of Hawai\u02bbi (UH), <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL), and <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Multiple State and County agencies <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Connect K\u0101kou encompasses all broadband efforts across the state, totaling more than $400 million in federal resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Funding will largely be dedicated towards <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/broadband\/broadband-101-2\/\">middle mile and last mile infrastructure<\/a> developments with priority given to <strong>locations without any Internet service<\/strong>, <strong>underserved locations<\/strong> (those with speeds consistently under 100\/20 Mbps), <strong>rural and high-cost communities<\/strong>, and <strong>covered populations<\/strong> (e.g., low-income households, aging, incarcerated, veterans, individuals with disabilities, those with a language barrier, individuals of a racial or ethnic minority, and individuals residing in rural areas) as defined by the Digital Equity Act of 2021, as well as digital literacy skills development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To summarize, our goals for the State are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>High-speed Internet availability for all;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Affordable access for all; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Digital literacy skills for all<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.connectkakou.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"215\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/broadband\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2023\/11\/ConnectKakou_logo-1024x215.png\" alt=\"Connect K\u0101kou logo and with link to the website\" class=\"wp-image-1438\" style=\"width:591px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/broadband\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2023\/11\/ConnectKakou_logo-1024x215.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/broadband\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2023\/11\/ConnectKakou_logo-300x63.png 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/broadband\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2023\/11\/ConnectKakou_logo-768x161.png 768w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/broadband\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2023\/11\/ConnectKakou_logo-1536x323.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/broadband\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2023\/11\/ConnectKakou_logo.png 1728w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This broadband investment is a once-in-a-generation occurrence and is a chance for Hawai\u02bbi to ensure that Internet connectivity goals historically outlined in a 2008 Task Force Report, both editions of the Strategic Broadband Report, and most recently, our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/broadband\/five-year-action-plan\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/broadband\/five-year-action-plan\/\">Five-Year Action Plan<\/a>, are met.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The State of Hawai\u02bbi is committed to affordable access to high-speed Internet for ALL residents.
